A number of Lakewood residents have been receiving info-line type of phone calls with recordings stating that the gedolim have announced to vote for all the Republcian candidates in the upcoming election in New Jersey. As we will discuss in one of our featured news stories tomorrow here on Matzav.com, while the Vaad of Lakewood and the rabbonim have endorsed almost all the Republican candidates, including Senator John McCain for president and Rep. Chris Smith for Congress, two Democrat candidates, namely, Senator Frank Lautenberg and Mayor Ray Coles, have been endorsed for reelection.
Several of the residents who have received these calls state that the caller ID comes up as Ocean County Republican Club, with a phone number of 732-244-5400. The Ocean County Republican Club has been informed of this and has said that while they are gratified to hear that people are pushing for residents to vote straight Republican, they are dismayed that people are using the name of their club as part of a hoax.
