We’re helping to get the word out about an upcoming engagement of comedienne Susie Essman. If this is out of kilter with your focus, feel free to disregard…however if not…super!
Essman makes her Centre East debut with an evening of sharp-witted standup, Saturday, Nov. 15 at 8 p.m. at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie, 9501 Skokie Blvd. Best known for her role in “Curb Your Enthusiasm” Essman’s hilariously biting standup has earned her the title of the “female Don Rickles” (Cleveland Scene). The Times of London hails “like Joan Rivers before her, Essman has the great Jewish comedian’s knack for being astoundingly insulting and mostly harmless… It’s a bravura onslaught, funnier for its fiery fluency than for the preheated material.” Opening for Essman will be Scott Blakeman, a co-host of NBC’s “Sunday Today” and frequent contributor to National Public Radio and Air America.
For six seasons, Essman has played the foulmouthed Susie Greene, wife of Jeff Greene (Jeff Garlin) on HBO’s comedy series “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Essman’s impressive list of stand up includes Comedy Central and the Friars Club roasts of Jerry Stiller and Chevy Chase. She has appeared in several specials and documentaries, including Uncensored Comedy: That’s Not Funny! on the cable network Trio and the 2004 documentary Funny Already: A History of Jewish Comedy. Essman was featured in the 2005 independent film The Aristocrats, which traced variations on a single dirty joke. Essman’s numerous TV guest appearances include “Every Day With Rachel Ray,” “Million Dollar Password” and “Late Night with Conan O’Brien.” She can be heard as the voice of Helen Higgins in the Comedy Central’s puppet animation/crank call series “Crank Yankers” and is also featured as the voice of Mittens the Cat in Disney’s upcoming animated film Bolt which also stars John Travolta.
Scott Blakeman has been hailed for his “strong laugh-getting style coupled with a sharp wit” (Variety). Blakeman a co-host of NBC’s “Sunday Today” has made more than 30 national television appearances, and performs his political humor from a liberal Jewish point of view around the world. Blakeman can be heard regularly on National Public Radio and Air America. He also tours the U.S. with Palestinian-American comedian Dean Obeidallah in Standup for Peace: The Two Comedian Solution to Middle East Peace, which he also co-founded.
Centre East presents an evening of stand up with Susie Essman Saturday, Nov. 15 at 8 p.m. (May include language not suitable for younger or more sensitive audience members.) For more info call 847-673-6300 or visit http://www.centreeast.org.

Since there is no other place to post this but in a comments section, I am going to implore people to please say tehillim for Suri Yehidis Bas Gittel. She is a Heimishe girl that was raped and beaten in Boro Park on Thursday October 15th. The girl is OK and is seeking counseling but we NEED to at least get the word out that she has been injured and that the men who did this to her were not apprehended. I’m not sure how many people reach these sites daily but since the police would not release the information and those who helped Suri do not want her full name and school published, no one will post that this incident happened and she honestly need our tefillos and she NEEDS people to say tehillim for her. This comment is not asking for anything. Not a penny. I am a friend of hers, although not particularly close to the girl, but she had had so many hardships and has no parents to look after her during this terrible time. Please say tehillim for Suri Yehidis Bas Gittel and keep this girl close to your heart. She is a true yiddishe neshume.
